Qix is a port of the Qix arcade game released digitally in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The original game is mostly intact, with two additional game modes available for play. There are no differences between the Switch and PlayStation 4 release.
This release also has a plethora of user configurable settings, such as control mapping, screen display, and toggling mechanics like lives or the threshold. Furthermore, scores are able to be shared online on a global leaderboard.
Controls
Gameplay
There are three modes of play available:
Original Mode
Gameplay is identical to the original arcade version. The player Marker must fill in sections of the play field to meet a threshold—usually 75%—while avoiding enemies like the Qix, Sparx, or Fuse. Players are able to toggle win conditions like threshold percentage or how many lives they receive.
Hi Score Mode
The player is not permitted to pause or save, and must collect as many points as they can in a standard-rules run. After a game is over, the player may opt to post their score online, and see their ranking during the next game.
Caravan Mode
Similar to Hi Score mode, the player aims to get as many points as possible without the use of saving or pausing—but within a five minute time limit. Scores may also be posted online to a digital leaderboard.
Scoring
For more information, see Competitive:Qix (Arcade Archives).
Slow Draws are worth twice as much as Fast Draw. Each percentage after the threshold is 1000 bonus points. All games must have 3,000 points in order to be listed on the leaderboard at all. The default leaderboard (entitled "Qix Kickers") has points of 30,000 for "QIX".
